Don't Drink the "Kool Aid" Too Fast!

First, Kool-Aid is not our subject for today, nor is this an insinuation there is anything wrong with Kool-Aid when used as intended. The term is commonly used due to its connection to a historical event where blind obedience and loyalty to a cause were detrimental. For clarification, the beverage used during the event was Flavor Aid, not Kool-Aid, and neither beverage is considered dangerous or derogatory based on how it was used. However, we now have a slogan that reminds us not to devote ourselves blindly to any ideology or concept based upon someone else's coaxing or, simply put, "Don't drink the Kool-Aid."

That being said, in today's society, we watch videos and hear speeches about different concepts, thoughts, ideologies, and even people describing the Companies they work for, and we drink the Kool-Aid as if it's all fact. However, we should do our due diligence to understand the videos and speeches and whether these concepts and Companies align with our morals and values and are true to their words.

When I plan a vacation, I start by looking at destinations, then deep dive into the culture, reviews, historical weather patterns, ages of hotels and communities, and attractions in the area. As a Marriott and Hilton rewards member, I also understand the hotel culture and expectations of the chains I frequent, and I am big about holding people to those standards when I travel. I don't walk into an area or hotel and believe that my experience will be what they tell me on the website. Based on my research, I have level-set my expectations and have in my mind what I will and won't tolerate for my investment.

Similarly, we should have this mindset when joining a church, interviewing for a job, picking a house or school district for our kids, and any other decision that can have a long-term impact. It is important that you align yourself with a workplace environment, community, and people that share your values. You don't have to settle or sacrifice yourself. Don't live with blinders on with your pitcher of Kool-Aid and act as if everything is ok. Do your due diligence and take action for your self-improvement.

We only have one life, and our decisions will impact the balance and peace we should have. Don't let anyone tell you anything, and you believe it. Ask questions. Be bold with your expectations. Be brave in your willingness to change. Believe in yourself, your intuition, and your dreams.

My key to greater goal attainment and living a sustainable, healthy life is living each day on purpose and with passion. I challenge you to stop drinking the Kool-Aid so fast and gain a better perspective on the things you've aligned yourself with and how it's impacting your health and well-being.

Have an awesome week on the journey.
