My father was an extremely strict man who had no sons and three daughters, so he treated his girls like they were boys. One of his favorite things to say when we were afraid or spoke without confidence was, “Piss or get off the pot.” It always upset me, but it also pushed me to move. Maybe because I wanted to show him I was strong, capable, and not afraid. Even though I did not like his delivery, it helped me to build thick skin and to understand how to take someone’s negativity and turn it into a positive to be applied to the journey.
Today, I am not telling you to 'piss or get off the pot', but I am sharing that we must be bold in our intentions, brave on the journey, and we must believe in ourselves. No matter where you are in life, there will be challenges, and how we persevere through those challenges builds our confidence and creates those opportunities for success. Life will throw daggers at you and make you feel like you cannot accomplish your goals, but in those moments, we must dig deep and find the resolve to push forward in our growth mindset.
My favorite quote is by Audre Lorde, and it reads, “When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” Not fearing the darkness does not mean anything lurks; you are strong enough to manage whatever is ahead. Living on purpose takes great focus, confidence, and the ability to block out the various nuisances accompanying it.
Progress is one small step toward our goals; if you do it daily, it can lead to powerful results. I always say, “We need to turn our fear into power and power into purpose.” Stop doubting yourself in a way that causes you to create barriers toward your goals and positive change in your life. The darkness, the symbol of the work that needs to be done and the challenges we will face, is before the light at the end of the tunnel. You must inevitably take this route to complete the journey.
There was a time when I allowed my fear to hold me captive, and I was broken and tired. I was smiling on the outside, but there was an infestation of sadness and wanting on the inside. It took time and a shift of my mindset to find happiness again and even longer to restore myself to who I am today. When we doubt the power within us, we transfer it to others who will use it. We place our purpose on hold when we disconnect from positive actions for our well-being. These are two things that we can no longer do.
We should know our power is strong and can face any obstacle. The power that builds desire toward our vision and provides clarity and direction is formidable. Whatever your source of power is, you need to understand that harnessing that power can be your breakthrough to something new, better, and amazing. You are enough, and you can live in your greatness, living your best life, if you genuinely want it.
Imagine today as the catalyst to your new life and purpose. Manifest your vision and create your goals. Each day, take one step forward and then another until you find yourself making sustainable habit changes.
BE BOLD. BE BRAVE. BELIEVE
Have a great snow day.
